A lot can be done in 10 days or less. So when I got wind that Rozay Mo of Smoking Aces & MTM's Capo J. Skyy was teaming up to do a collaborative project, clearly I was expecting a double project! But the end result was The Perfect Chronicles. This 11 song effort was crafted quite nicely considering the time span it took to complete it. The chemistry between Mo & Skyy is evident as Skyy's melodic flow combined with Mo's syrupy delivery gives this LP the "Perfect Combination". The majority of the sound scape was provided by Brooklyn's own ill Phil. But hometown producers Durdy Costello, Charles Palmer & Anteezy help fill this project out as it is truly a solid piece of work. The highlights on this project are "Hotel Room", "Brown Vodka" & "Abstract". To say it plain, this a damn good effort and I think it's safe to say this is only the beginning! 5th Child has been on a musical journey that spans over 10 years! With time, one can either fall dormant to mediocrity or rise to be something greater! On his 8th LP, Conversations With God; 5th has proven with time you can't be complacent in the music. 5th's lyrical prowess shines throughout this project. He especially steals the show on Y. Valentine produced "What You Need" alongside "Motherless Child" & Traxx On Deck produced "My Conversations...". One of the biggest highlights of this project was the dialogue provided by 5th's father on "...With God". Above all, 5th's discography is an amazing accomplishment for any artist independent or major. So if you haven't heard this project, make haste and click the link above! Follow @5thchildmusic

Being that I'm an Artist & Producer, I know firsthand the importance of the 2. It's a rare case when you find the combination come together in perfect symmetry. Enter AVEVO & Dolla Black. These 2, one being the Artist and the other the Producer, have created a formula that has took (to my knowledge) 6 years to formulate. It has been battle tested and the end result... The BlackOut EP. This project showcases the growth between 2 people who've truly understood that one can't stand alone without the other. AVE created a sound scape that fits Dolla's strengths and at some point, challenged him. Within this 19 minute showing, you will hear a culmination of 2 individuals plight and how thier struggle became their recipe for success! If you get a chance, click the link above and prepare to Black Out! Follow @DollaBlackBDE & @_avevo

5th Child has got to be one helluva Chess player because you never know what his next move is going to be. His next LP Conversations with GOD is slated to be released sometime soon. But in the meantime, he quietly released The Child Support EP to keep us in suspense until his next move! This 5 piece is a great showing from the Jackson MC. He displays a lot of growth and maturity. The production is stellar and the wordplay is flawless! If this project is any insight on what the album is going to be like, then we'll be definitely appeased as listeners! So go support this project! Follow @5thchildmusic
I know it's been awhile since I've posted anything! I've been currently working on several projects and it has had me locked down lately! But it's good to know someone has been keeping their eyes & ears to the streets. Fellow Blogger/Musician Sika J is well known for her bold statements and topics. So with the current state of Music on the local scene seeming stagnant, she goes to make a very valid statement via Facebook. Here's here take on the matter at hand.
Except from Sika J's Facebook Page:
You like that new Drake/Future ish huh? Imagine that excitement and your participation in the #hashtag, hence, free promotion, being given for a full 24 hours to a mixtape or project release of people like LakeGang who is dropping something on Sprinrilla in a few hours, or artist like Dolla Black who just celebrated the 1 year anniversary of one of his biggest projects #LetMeWork, or artist like Silas, who constantly drops two or three songs a month for our listening pleasures as we patiently wait on #RapRevolt, or TLO and all the movement he started making last week with #LucidDreamz, or DJ Jonasty dropping two mixups by Slimm Pusha on #SoundCloud that will get you through any hard moment through the day, or #ScraperGang dropping this after that, or Lil Chris Manne performing all over the city, or J Skyy and Rozay Mo preparing to drop #PerfectChronicles, or Tricky constantly working and preparing us for his next project adventures, or DJs like Young Venom, Scrap, and NastySho constantly giving us socials to either attend or spread the word about so we can "get familiar" with what's in our surroundings, or Th eHood Hippie providing us with all the info we need along with #RashadStreet giving us the perfect guide on how or who to support, and ill stop there but I'm nowhere near done. Imagine if we pushed them, the way you push mainstream mess that will never generate money in your area or life, how viral and successful they can quickly become because of us alone? You guys know how to support. You just don't know who deserves it or who to give it to, even though we tell yall day in and out to "support your own" but I'm schleep.
So needless to say we have the power to make our City or State valid. So who's ready to take that stand! #supportyourown Follow Sika J @sika.j

Charles Smith aka Duece the Barber has the skills in which he has crafted his way to becoming the 'Boss'. His journey wasn't paved in gold though, it required some determination. Duece graduated from Murrah High School in 2002 where he also played football. He got his inspiration for Barbering after a teammate gave him a whacked up line. So he decided to put the clippers in his hands and he eventually became the Barber for his teammates and friends. After High School, Duece football dreams were short lived but it only redirected him to his calling. He received his license from the Academy of Hair Design in 2005 where he was the youngest in his Class. Now at 31, he's not only the Owner of Shape Ups Hair Studio in Ridgeland, he's taking the responsibility of giving back. He helps kids throughout the Summer with their literacy and will be speaking at Anderson Methodist Church in Jackson for their Teen Summit in August. He's a Husband, a Father & now a Business Owner. We salute you Duece. Follow @Duece_The_Barber

I have a story I would like to share with you all about Mr. King:
Out of all the performers I've seen in my life, B.B. King was one of the ones I will always remember. Not because he's a legend or because he's a iconic staple in America's Music. It was because it was a once in a lifetime experience that I didn't expect to happen! I wanna say this was back in 2009 and Mr. King was scheduled to perform at this Two Rivers Gala in Jackson. Mind you these tickets were about 100 a pop and I wasn't holding that type of money for a show! Surprisingly I get a call from my Pops and he tells me he can get My Wife and I into the show! I didn't hesitate, we got dressed and we were on our way! Mr. King was expected to do a 45 minute to an hour set. He did 2 hours of material and ended the the show with "The Thrill Is Gone". He even handpicked my Wife out of the crowd and gave her a B.B. King Gold Necklace as a memento. To say I enjoyed myself would be an understatement! To top the night off, one of Mr. King's associates asked if we wanted to meet him. Which was an honor due to the fact he wasn't feeling well and was probable for even doing the show. So as we approached him, he was just as humble and he almost stole my Wife! (Just Kidding) To make this experience even more special, somehow we made the paper! Just one of many things that made this night so memorable! Thank You Mr. King for the memory and the music you've given us!
Today we lost a legend at the age of 89. He will be remembered as one of the greatest performers of our time! But for me, he'll be remembered for that once in a lifetime experience in Jackson. Thank You Mr. King! May you Rest In Peace.

What's in a name nowadays? Apparently for Meezy (formerly known as Lil Mal) it could bring about a change...for the better! The Only For Family Capo has reinvented himself and is ready to set the world on it's ear with his latest installment of the LFSO series. Live From Shady Oaks V displays Meezy with a sharper sound and his wordplay & cadence has been finely tuned. He gives us an honest outlook on his plight on "Pocket Change" and he held his own alongside Ca$hville's Starlito on "Ten Ways". Records like "Right Nah" & "Substance" revealed major growth for Meezy. Overall, this 10 piece is a solid effort and you can see that his story is far from finish! Follow @itsmeezynow

Black Dolla Entertainment is a label that is on the rise! So far they've released 3 projects this year and it doesn't seem like this train is about to stop no time soon! Enter Mojo Kezz, a up and coming fire starter from the BDE camp who's ready to stake his claim with 1989. This 10 piece gives us a little insight into a youngster who has everything to gain and nothing to lose! Records like "Born To Be Great" & "Seasons" were a solid effort! The defining record that stood out the most was "You're the Reason" (My Cup Pt. 3) which tells a story that most Men would stray away from. I applaud the honesty and the grit Mojo exudes on this project! Check it out & follow @MojoKezz

If the future is truly in the hands of our youth, then we'll be alright in this case. BDE affiliate Jo'De Boy is a young gun who shows much promise with his latest project Gods Prophet. Majority of this LP's soundscape is provided by producer AVEVO and Jo'De carries his own with witty lyrics and multiple rhyme schemes. Checkout records "False Guidance", "Bring The Stars Out" & "The Lies I Trusted". This project is a good start for what seems to be a solid beginning for the rhyme spitter. This Valentine's Day set off a showdown between some of Mississippi's most prominent artists! It you couldn't decide which to listen to 1st, it's okay! There was no disappointments on each end. Tricky LT 45 revamps with his release of One Hot Summer which indeed was packed with heat and included a special 16 from Crooked Lettaz & Mississippi's own David Banner on "Dead Serious". Rozay Mo also revamps with Valentines Day Massacre Two. This project is a roller coaster as it gives you extreme highs and lows. Overall, you can't deny the music as Rozay provides the soundtrack for Street Love! To round it off, Hollywood Luck returns as The Inside Man with La Grande Amour. If you need your R&B fix with an edge, this is your joint! This 10 piece provides just enough to get you where you need to be! 2014 is now behind us and for some, it brings about a whole new focus!
Last year's list brought about more hits than misses. So when it came time to go about this list, it was hard! I mean the list changed more times than Mississippi weather! What I can say is that I was pretty dead on last year and I had a hard time narrowing it down to 14! (So don't be surprised to see something extra this go around) Midway to the end of 2014 showcased a few artists, tastemakers & key players that may shape up a powerful 2015. It was a long list of players that came across the table...but without delay, here's your Power 15
Find out the 15 Players you should be watching in 2015 below.
Strongarm - Producer
Strongarm has been a very instrumental part of the Hip-Hop scene in Jackson for a long time. So it was only a matter of time before he took his talents to a bigger market. Now based in Texas, Strongarm has taken the Lone Star state by storm and people are taking notice. Ice Age Head Honcho Mike Jones ("Still Tippin'" & "Back Then") has recently enlisted Strong's talents to his new Mixtape Money Train which is receiving major buzz on the blogs and other media outlets. The sky is the limit for this Chairmen of the Board. Keep your alert on high as Strongarm is far from slowing down!
Songs To Hear: "3 Grams" from Mike Jones Money Train
